A2M (Alpha 2 Macroglobulin) is a naturally occurring molecule that is present in the blood. The A2M, which is naturally occurring and protective of the body, finds it challenging to travel to a joint or disc space because of its large size and complex nature. The A2M molecule is composed of two binding areas, which capture proteases and destructive enzymes. Subsequently, after binding with the destructive enzymes, the A2M molecules are eliminated from the body through the normal body processes.

What does A2M treat?

The alpha two macroglobulins (A2M) molecule injections are used to treat several problems of the joints in the body. Pains from overuse such as tennis elbow, chronic pains occurring due to arthritis, osteoarthritis are a few examples. The A2M injection therapy can be used to treat the following cases:

  • A2M injections can help reduce or eliminate inflammation and pain.
  • It helps support the repair and restoration of joints.
  • Costly invasive surgeries can be prevented or delayed by using A2M injection therapy.
  • The further breakdown of tissues can be prevented.
  • They stop the breakdown of cartilage and prevent cartilage loss.
  • It improves the function of the joints while simultaneously reducing the pain.
  • It ceases the progression of osteoarthritis.
  • It helps reduce the pain caused by osteoarthritis.

What is the procedure for A2M injections?

The procedure for getting A2M injections does not take more than an hour. First, 160cc of blood is drawn from the patient's arm. The drawn blood is then spun in a centrifuge for about 10 minutes. The spinning of the blood helps separate the two different types of plasma, namely red and yellow. Once the plasma is separated from the blood, it is made to undergo an additional filtration process to isolate the yellow plasma from the red. This yellow plasma is the concentrated form of A2M injection injected into the problem joints. This injection can be used to treat more than one location.

Generally, patients do not complain about pain or inflammation after the injection. On the other hand, they feel better and more mobile in the injected joint after injecting. The effect of the injections can last for several months or even longer with proper therapy.

How does A2M work to treat arthritis?

Arthritis is a condition in which chemicals destroy a person's cartilage tissues, thus affecting the joints. The chemicals cause the cartilage to break down, thus resulting in pain and inflammation. The disease will ultimately cause the cartilage's disappearance entirely, resulting in the painful friction of bones brushing against each other. The cartilage works as a shield to prevent the rubbing of bones in healthy joints.

A2M injections stop the progress of osteoarthritis at the molecular level by deactivating the chemicals that cause the joints' breakdown. The destructive chemicals are captured and neutralized by the A2M injections, which are later eliminated by the body. As the inflammation is controlled, the joint will begin to recover. The remaining A2M in the joint will promote tissue growth, and the joint can begin the restoration process. The repaired damage will result in a pain-free joint.
